Italian manuscript painting of the Middle Ages and Renaissance truly is “writing made beautiful” and this book celebrates this exquisite artistic tradition. Taken from an exhibition held in Cleveland, San Francisco and New York in 2003-2004, this catalogue of 87 examples dating from the 13th to 16th century, includes works by some of the foremost painters from some of the major schools of the period. Each entry includes a photograph, most of which are in color, along with detailed descriptions and information of provenance, size and so forth. All the pieces are taken from the private collection of Robert Lehman (1891-1969).
